Our Research
You may think of Bose as an audio products company. The 901® Direct/Reflecting® speaker, the Wave® radio and QuietComfort® Acoustic Noise Cancelling® headphones are indeed part of a distinguished research history that sets Bose apart.
But our research has also extended into the following areas:
- A revolutionary automobile suspension system that delivers both the smooth ride of a luxury sedan and the responsive control of a sports car
- Medical testing equipment and durability simulation instruments that can reduce test time and improve product reliability
- Proprietary software that easily adapts sound system performance to the specific acoustics of a room
Because Bose is privately held and puts all of its profits back into the company, such long-term research is not only possible, it is essential. Here, research is a department unto itself, independent of product divisions. That allows it to address a wide variety of projects, including ones having nothing to do with audio.
This multi-disciplinary approach requires broad, systems-level thinkers. Ideas are evaluated primarily on their technical merit and expected benefit to the end consumer. Many of the best ideas are championed from research to development by a small team of dedicated individuals.
